A Piece of Advice Handed Out For Free.

Have you ever gone through something so traumatic you didn’t recognize yourself on the other end of it?

Yeah me too….

Then you stumble through life wondering what you can do to recognize that reflection in the mirror.

Everywhere you search for answers you see #heal… but how?

Therapy..? Journaling..? An evening alone with nature..? Why is it that common sources used for gathering information in this era, i.e. social media, always boasts about a perfect way to go about healing.. and why does it always involve doing something alone?

Is it possible to heal together? Unpopular belief: I’ve only seen one racial ethnic group take pride in doing everything alone… I’ll let you ponder on that one.

Now, while it may be responsible and respectful to take time alone, we were never meant to go through any stage of life alone. Find you a tribe, or maybe just one person, that will go on this life journey with you and heal alongside you through each stage.

Another piece of advice handed out for free

Let’s talk about beliefs. You may believe in a higher power or spiritual guide. Despite this, there is still work that you must do on your own. God will always make a way, but you at least have to be moving… walking… maybe even crawling. Just because you don’t see the fruits of your labor does not mean those seeds aren’t budding. I say this as a reminder to be patient, stay focused, and keep it moving. As the saying goes, “Rome was not built in a day”.

Story time!

I have always been in great shape, mostly due to me being involved in sports in high school. So, when I joined the military at the tender age of 21, the last thing I thought I would struggle with was the physical portion. Yes… you read that right! Specifically, I could not pass the sit-ups to save my life. At the time during basic training the requirement was 53 sit-ups. I was stuck at a confident 42 and could possibly squeeze out 45. However, as I stated, passing was 53 so that just was not going to cut it. Fast forward 10 weeks later, quickly approaching is my last opportunity to pass the fitness test and graduate basic training. By week 10 each self-test I was taking would result in 51 sit-ups, 52 sit-ups, or 53 sit-ups by the skin of my teeth! Now, at this point I had had a conversation with my God and I told him, “I’ll put in the work, but I need your help”, and the grind was on. For the next 5 days leading up to the final physical test, I was knocking out sit-ups all day. Sit-ups for breakfast, sit-ups for lunch, and at least 100 sit-ups before bed. I didn’t pass…… Just kidding! I passed with 57 sit-ups, a few extra just in case some did not count along the way lol. God will carry you through as long as you are putting in the work!
